In Addition to Beauty, Proanthocyanidins Can Be Used Like This!

Researchers from Spain's University of Ivoryri discovered that high-fat, carbohydrate, or western diets can trigger alterations in the intestinal canal. Several new studies have shown that this type of diet impacts epithelial barrier function and intestinal inflammation, as well as changes in body weight and glucose balance, and that grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) may protect the intestine from these injuries.

According to research published in the journal Molecular Nutrition and Food Research, taking medium or high dosages of grape seed proanthocyanidins will reduce intestinal inflammation, oxidative stress, and improve barrier integrity in mice. The medium dose is approximately 25 mg/kg, which closely corresponds to the amount people eat via dietary supplements, whereas the high dose (50 mg/kg) exceeds food supplement intake.

In this study, researchers fed 36-week-old rats western diets for 15 weeks before randomly assigning them to four groups: control (0 mg/kg), low dosage (5 mg/kg), medium dose (25 mg/kg), and high dose (50 mg/kg), then feeding them for another three weeks. Researchers discovered that intestinal inflammation increased in the control group mice, but it decreased dramatically in the grape seed proanthocyanidate extract group. Furthermore, when compared to the control group, the active oxygen concentration in the experimental group mice's serum was considerably lower.

In general, grape seed proanthocyanidins extract taken orally can reduce intestinal inflammation and oxidative stress while also improving intestinal barrier integrity. According to the study findings, people should investigate the regulation of nutritional or dietary intervention treatment in gut health and permeability in the setting of obesity.
