Product Information
Name Isoleucine (L-)
Specification 99%
Constitutional Formula C6H13NO2
CAS No. 73-32-5

Isoleucine (Ile or I)[1] is a α-amino acid with the chemical formula HO2CCH(NH2)CH(CH3)CH2CH3. It is an essential amino acid, which implies that humans cannot synthesis it and must thus consume it. It has three codons: AUU, AUC, and AUA. Isoleucine is a hydrophobic amino acid because it has a hydrocarbon side chain. Isoleucine, along with threonine, is one of two common amino acids having a chiral side chain.

There are four potential stereoisomers of isoleucine, including two probable diastereomers of L-isoleucine. However, in nature, isoleucine exists in just one enantiomeric form, (2S,3S)-2-amino-3-methylpentanoic acid. L-isoleucine is an essential amino acid and one of the branched chain amino acids (L-isoleucine, L-valine, and L-leucine).

This means that L-isoleucine cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained from diet or supplements. The daily need for a male adult is 10 mg per kilogram of body weight. Almonds, cashews, and soy protein are all good sources of isoleucine.

Indications and Uses

L-isoleucine is one of the best amino acids for muscle growth.

L-Isoleucine is an amino acid that is one of three branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). L-Leucine and L-Valine are the other two. L-Isoleucine is a Leucine isomer. It aids in the management of blood sugar and also helps to enhance energy levels. L-Isoleucine can be gained by diet or supplementation. Meat, fish, eggs, beans, nuts, and seeds are examples of these foods.
