Ganoderma lucidum is widely used and recommended by Asian physicians and naturopaths for its supporting effects on the immune system.
Preliminary laboratory research and limited preclinical trials have suggested that G. lucidum has potential anticancer and immunomodulatory properties.
Ganoderma triterpenoids are a class of triterpenoid compounds found in Ganoderma lucidum, commonly known as total triterpenoids of Ganoderma lucidum. They belong to highly oxidized lanostelane derivatives and are one of the main chemical and pharmacological components of Ganoderma lucidum. The triterpenoids in Ganoderma lucidum have particularly significant physiological activity.
The triterpenoid components of Ganoderma lucidum are mainly distributed in the peripheral part of the fruiting body, and their content increases with the maturity of the fruiting body. Some triterpenoid compounds are very bitter, while others have no bitter taste. Their content varies depending on the variety, cultivation conditions, and different growth stages. Bitter Ganoderma lucidum generally has a higher content of triterpenoid compounds.
