Flaxseed - Excellent Hypotensive Food
Studies have shown that flaxseed extract helps lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes. Researchers at the University of Lodz Medical School in Poland published a paper on "Blood Pressure Functional Foods" and stated that flaxseed could help to lower blood pressure. Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 15 clinical trials involving 1,302 experimenters on the hypotensive effects of flaxseed supplements. The researchers found that by taking flaxseed supplements, experimenters’systolic and diastolic blood pressure reduced by 2.85 mm Hg and 2.39 mm Hg, respectively. And by taking flaxseed supplements for more than 12 weeks, the systolic blood pressure was found to decreased by 3.10 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure by 2.62 mm Hg. The effect of flaxseed powder was found to be greater than that of flaxseed oil. The author of the study wrote: "This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials showed that all kinds of flaxseed products and supplements can significantly reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure."
