Amazing Analgesic Effect of Watermelon
As rich in amino acids and l-citrulline, watermelon juice can relieve muscle soreness. Numerous studies have shown that l-citrulline, an amino acid found in watermelons, cucumbers, certain pumpkins and other melons, has the effect of reducing muscle soreness. Researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena Martha and her colleagues respectively gave 500 ml natural watermelon juice containing 1.17 g l- citrulline , watermelon juice with extra added 4.83 g l- citrulline (which have been containing 1.17 grams of l-citrulline) and placebo to seven college sports students averaging 22.7 years old. The test results showed that the above three beverages had no significant improvement on experimenters’ heart rate, physical exhaustion level and exercise performance. But the two groups of experimenters taking watermelon juice, their muscle soreness level after 24 hours was significantly lower than the placebo group. The authors of the study, said: "watermelon juice helps after 24 hours recover heart rate and reduce muscle soreness."
